Color Associations to Emotion
One of the most important features of art therapy is the expression of emotions through color, which requires us to learn to use association about color. The association generated by color varies from person to person and is influenced by gender, age, experience, interests and personality.
For example, people think of bananas and pineapples when they see yellow; people think of strawberries, apples and the sun when they see red; people think of the sea and the sky when they see blue.
Color has the power to arouse many imaginations.
The association of color and emotion is free, but it has certain rules. Association is the response of an individual’s experiences, memories, thoughts and opinions to color. Therefore, when a person has the association of colors, whether hearing the name of the color, or seeing the color sample, he actually thinks of the same content.
